Ramen Review #13: Doll Instant Ramen: Chicken Flavour

It is funny how this brand is actually called Doll. In Cantonese instant ramen is called tsik sik mien, which translates literally to instant eatable noodles. I grew up calling any kind of instant noodles kong tsai mien, which translates to doll noodles. I think this is related to Nissin having a little boy holding a delivery box with ramen in it, as kong tsai can also be translated as a drawn figure.  But today there will be no good old Nissin ramen.

Interesting fact: Doll is actually a brand from Hong Kong. It is produced by Winner Food Products Limited, which is now a subsidiary of Nissin. Winner Food started in 1968 and Nissin introduced Demae Ramen in 1970 in Hong Kong. Not sure if the kong tsai comes from this brand or Nissin... On to the food!

Inside the package you will find some dried noodles, a soup packet and an oil packet.

The soup base smells like ginger, but sadly has no ginger taste. The slightly salty chicken soup tastes like any other powdered chicken stock. The noodles are soft and there is hardly any bite to them. It is a decent noodle, especially if a good bite is not what you are looking for, but for me the chicken flavour Demae Ramen is still beter.
